Journal for December 2008 OK Sir Galahad reporting for duty at my new digs in Idaho. Departure was at O-Dark-Thirty from OK Longears in Enumclaw, Washington, www.oklongears.com October 19th 2008. D Bar S Ranch is where I spent four years of boot camp training, otherwise known as my childhood, under the direction of Doug and Sue Wallace for this high-ranking assignment. Team Donk and I had our first summit meeting immediately upon my arrival at 1600 hours. Separated by a pipe and cable fence that first get acquainted session went extremely well. I could tell from the get-go that Luc is the local Four Star General; he’s the first one I had to win over.
Sergeant Liberty and I were buddies immediately. Our sire is the famous Northwest show donkey that does it all; Siemon’s Maxamillion, which of course makes us family. Liberty and I share many of dad’s excellent qualities so great things are expected from both of us. It wasn’t long before Kristi, my new person, and I went walking together. We strolled through pale yellow harvested wheat fields where we could watch the flocks of Canadian Geese and Mallard Ducks suspended on a massive crystal clear pond. From the hilltops we observed the neighbor’s band of sheep some of those old girls must have been wearing bells, I swear I could hear bells off in the distance! We went up and down the gravel roadways just getting to know each other, which gave Kristi an excuse to clean all four of my feet daily, I swear that girl has a hoof fetish. Before I knew it I was wearing Luc’s harness and we were off walking again. Next thing I knew Kristi had dropped back to my side and then behind me and I was being ground driven with just a lead rope, I had to keep turning around to make sure she was still back there. She would walk up to my head and we’d start over again, pretty soon she was behind me and I was leading the parade drill. Not long after those walks she added a bridle and long lines and we were off again. Thirteen days from my arrival I was hitched and ground driven with Luc. It was decided then and there I was born to be the newest member of team donk!
It’s been a smooth transition bunking with Luc and Liberty. Luc and I have a thing about engaging in war games and I can even entice Liberty to join in on the action. The MRE’s (meals ready to eat), are great, since I am now the official spokesperson for the platoon I let Kristi know when the troops are ready for chow. From the Official Team Donk Spokesperson, which oh by the way I am the loudest, badest ass on the Camas Prairie, even if it’s just in my own mind! |
