Idaho County Fair 2008

The Idaho County Fair is our wrap up to summer where folks bring samples of what they have produced over the past year to be judged and displayed for all to admire. These county fairs are an important part of rural living.

This is the final judging of livestock, sewing, cooking, rocketry, and all the other projects local 4-H youth make time for each summer. Their record books and projects are proudly displayed and judged. Going to the week long fair and participating is just what we do and this year was no different.

Entering photography was a first for me. With the donkeys as my inspiration and subject matter it was a given as to what to enter. Picking just one picture seemed to be the big problem. Since a photo collage was put together for the other fairs we entered this month that turned out to be the admission of choice. Here is our blue ribbon donkey collage as it hung at the Idaho County Fair.

Choosing to drive Mr. Liberty in the fair parade meant this would be his first big-boy all by himself parade.  We really felt he was ready to do this and he was first class all the way.  Liberty placed 2nd in the equestrian division.

Our niece Kristin Kaschmitter, who is featured in the 2008 Western Idaho Fair story, received the County’s Overall Reserve Champion Showmanship
Award.  She is pictured here with her horse Senor PepA Pine. Congratulations Kristin.

One more first to add to this list is the introduction of our own Donkey Dude who not only helped out and rode in the Fair Parade but later that same day attended his first Cowboy Action Shooting and did very well I might add.

Harvesting cereal grain crops, plus three fairs, and one Cowboy Action Shooting Contest have made this a busy end to summer. But there is more to come so we’ll take a quick rest, regroup and head to Hells Canyon Mule Days in September
